New expansion for RimWorld
RimWorld - Biotech is a premium simulation title for PC from developer Ludeon Studios. It is an expansion pack for the popular base-building game, RimWorld. This new DLC has players focus on building a family and raising children in various ways to help them grow their colony and increase the overall population.
Building upon the base RimWorld game, RimWorld - Biotech will have players encounter and interact with a new group of sub-races and factions. Also, players will strive to further their research on building and controlling machines to help them achieve their goals and protect their colony.
Designing life
RimWorld is a sci-fi management game that received plenty of praise from gamers and reviewers alike for offering a well-rounded experience. It received a few DLCs since launch, further building upon the gameplay. RimWorld - Biotech is the latest entry to that list, and it is the biggest and most significant addition yet that changes the core experience in a new and meaningful way.
In RimWorld - Biotech, the main focus is on the concept of family. Have children, nurture their talents, and slowly increase your colony's population. It also introduces new factions composed of xenohumans, such as pig people, neanderthal, and more. The experience wouldn't be complete with some kind of sci-fi trope, so genetic modification lets you mix DNA from various samples to create unique lifeforms.
Furthermore, you'll get to research and conduct experiments on controlling machines. Turn a colonist into a Mechanitor, someone with a brain implant that lets them command mechanoids. Build an army of artificially created semi-humans to serve and protect your colony. Sadly, this new DLC does not integrate properly with previous releases, resulting in some gameplay structures that completely ignore the new factions it introduces.
Multiple possibilities
All in all, RimWorld - Biotech is hands down the best DLC yet in the series. The concept of genetic modification alone changes how you play the game in a variety of ways, and opens up virtually endless possibilities and combinations for creating new lifeforms. If you like the base game and are looking to get an expansion pack, let it be this one.
